ABOUT THE JOURNAL

Basic Information

Chungara Revista de Antropología Chilena (Chungara Journal of Chilean Anthropology) was founded in 1972 by the Department of Anthropology of Universidad del Norte and has been systematically published since then. It is currently published four times per year by the Department of Anthropology of the University of Tarapacá, Arica, Chile.

The journal publishes original articles, both in Spanish and in English, in the different fields of anthropology and other related sciences, including: cultural or social anthropology, archaeology, bioarchaeology, ethnobotany, ethnohistory, geography, geology, geoarchaeology, history, linguistics, paleoecology, semiotics, zooarchaeology, museology, and heritage.

The geographical scope of the journal is the Andean Region of South America. However, also accepted are manuscripts from other regions with theoretical and methodological approaches relevant to the thematic focus of the journal, and which can offer a comparative perspective. In this respect, theoretical and methodological contributions to the journal must contribute to the understanding and reassessment, as well as the creation of questions in the different disciplines of anthropology and related sciences.

The editorial structure of the journal includes the following sections: Editorial, Original Scientific Articles, Debates, Book Reviews, Interviews, Obituaries and In Memoriam.

The submitted manuscripts are reviewed by the Editorial Committee and at least three reviewers. Manuscripts can be uploaded on the journal’s webpage or may be submitted in electronic form and sent at any time. Manuscripts are published in order of acceptance. The dates of reception and acceptance of the manuscript are indicated in a footnote on the first page of the papers published, below author filiations.

Authors must follow the editorial instructions of Chungara when preparing their manuscripts. These can be requested from the editorial office (editora.asistente@chungara.cl) or downloaded from the Web page (www.chungara.cl).

Form of citation: The journal must be cited as Chungara Revista de Antropología Chilena in the reference list, footnotes, and bibliographic references.
