The authors interested in publishing in Ingeniare. Revista chilena de ingeniería must send their works adjusted according to the rules and formatting stated bellow.

The topics must be related to engineering fields: electronics, electricity, computing, mechanics, industry, metallurgy, chemistry, engineering teaching and other related disciplines.

When submitting a paper the authors should do the following:

  • Send a cover letter declaring that the article has not been submitted or published in any other journal, except in congress presentations or thesis. Please find attached a sample letter (Download).

  • The authors must agree to the contents of the submitted paper and have actively contributed to the publication.

  • In order to maintain an updated database and reduce revision time, a list of five potential reviewers must be given, indicating their affiliation and e-mail addresses.

  • The proposed evaluators should have high-level of expertise in the relevant field of research and they should not be related to the institution where the author(s) belong.

  • The affiliation, e-mail address and academic degree of each evaluator must be stated.

  • The letter must be signed by all authors.

  • The content of the article is an exclusive responsibility of the authors.

  • In the event that the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors must sign over the publishing rights to the Ingeniare. Revista chilena de Ingeniería.

Selection process for articles submitted for publication

1.- Preliminary selection and peer evaluation

The editor will first verify that the content of the article is appropriate for this journal and that the manuscript is set in accordance with the journal's standards. The editor may reject, at his discretion, submissions that do not comply with the general directions, are poorly written or do not possess sufficient scientific or technological merit.

Articles that pass the preliminary selection are sent for peer review by specialists and scientists having known research work in areas related to the article. Upon assessing the article, peer reviewers write a report including comments and suggestions recommending its acceptance or rejection.

2.- Evaluation by peer reviewers

In the process of evaluation of the article, reviewers will consider the soundness of the experimental design, verifying that the conclusions coincide with the statistical and experimental data. Reviewers will also evaluate that the sources consulted by the author(s) were the most pertinent or relevant to the topic discussed. Wording and writing correctness as well as graphic quality will also be assessed.

During this process, the identity of the reviewers will not be known by the author(s), but the latter's will be available to the reviewers.

3.- The editor's decision

After assessing the reviewers' recommendations, the editor will make a decision based on the following options:

Accepting the article, subject to minor revisions: The editor will return the article to the author(s) with a list of suggestions for minor corrections, including his own as well as those made by the reviewers. Once the modified manuscript is received by the editor, a confirmation of acceptance of the article and the publication date will be sent back to the author(s).

Minor revisions in an article include: typographical errors, page numbering, articles cited in the text that are not in the bibliography and vice versa, slight discrepancies between the summaries and the abstract, as well as moderate corrections to the text.

Returning the article for major revisions: The editor will return the article to the author(s) with a list of suggestions for major corrections that must be made before the article is eventually accepted for publication.

Major revisions include: analyzing data using other statistical tests, adding or redoing figures and tables, replicating experiments, rewriting the discussion of the problem using additional literature and making substantial changes to the text. The revised article will be returned to the author with the observation "not publishable".

The author should return the article to the Editor, complying thoroughly with the observations, stating that the changes were made, in order to be accepted for a new evaluation by the editor and eventually peer reviewers.

Evaluation of the article, in this stage, will result as final acceptance or rejection.

Reject: The editor will return the article with the result of peer evaluation, reporting the reason(s) for the rejection. This decision will be final (in most cases).

Reasons for rejection of an article include: inappropriate content, manuscripts not complying with the requirements for publication and/or lacking scientific or technological merit.

Rules of publication to authors

The work submitted for evaluation must not have "Copyright" granted to third parties. The editor reserves the right to make minor edits, for a better presentation of the work. Works may be submitted in English (preferably) and Spanish.

Characteristics of publications

The following types of contributions are considered:

Original articles. Results of significant research that contribute to the knowledge in the discipline, development or application of technological systems. These articles are subject to review by peer reviewers.

Review articles. These works contain a significant summary of the current state of a topic related to Engineering, and it is advisable to consult the editor if the review article is relevant. These articles have the same review process as a regular article.

Special works. They are considered works such as tutorials that contribute to the teaching of the discipline or related to current trends in engineering. Eventually, they may be considered as editorials, after consulting the authors. Authors of such works are invited to contact the editor, before presenting them. The Editorial Board of Ingeniare will review the editorials, in strictly essential cases it will be sent to peer review.

The editor will be in charge of authorizing the publication of the works, whose content will be the exclusive responsibility of the authors. Modifications or rejections will be communicated to all authors, through explanatory notes.

The summary is an abbreviated but comprehensive representation of the article and must inform about the objective, methodology, and results of the work described.

  • Keywords: In the following line of the respective summary and abstract should include at least three keywords that define the content of the article. It is recommended that the keywords differ from those included in the title and must correspond to the content of the manuscript. Do not place words like "study," analysis," method," and so on. Since they are words that can mainly be applied to any article and are not differentiating.

  • The introduction (Title, size 16pt) and the body should be written with font type Calibri 12 pt., With single line spacing (0 px).
