INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Scope and policy

Submission of Papers

The author begins the process of submission of papers through the website of the journal. The author should receive notification of the acceptance or rejection of the paper to be sent for peer review within no more than 30 days. Acceptance in this First Phase only implies compliance with the formal standards of the paper and whether it is of interest to the journal. At no time does it imply acceptance of the contents of the paper. This first review is carried out by the members of the editorial team.

Subsequently, if the editorial team considers the paper appropriate, it is sent for peer review by at least two expert reviewers in the area of the paper submitted. With the help of guidelines for assessment, evaluators report on the quality of the paper. The peer review process is double blind.

Once the reviewers' comments are delivered, the editorial team decides whether the paper can be classified as: A) Rejected, B) Major changes are required, C) Minor changes are required, D) Accepted for publication. If the paper is evaluated as being in category (B), the author has a limited period in which to make corrections to his/her paper. After receiving the amendments made by the author, the editorial team will issue a new editorial decision. In the case of papers in category C, the author will also be given a limited period in which to make corrections. Once these corrections are ready, the editor responsible will assess whether the article is ready to be accepted for publication or if more amendments are required.

Types of Papers

PEL receives:

A) Research papers:

Manuscripts that report original empirical research related to education, using qualitative and/or quantitative methods. They should include a literature review relevant to the topic of research, clearly defined methods that are consistent with the stated purpose, a clear analysis section, and discussion arising from the data presented in the manuscript.

B) Review papers:

Papers that contribute to the progress of knowledge production in different fields. Manuscripts aimed at synthesizing previous empirical research, discussing methodological and theoretical problems, or the implications of educational policy are welcome. The manuscripts are expected to specify the processes used to select the literature and the criteria for grouping and analysis.

C) Special sections:

The journal also accepts and welcomes proposals for special issues for publication of papers produced after important congresses, conferences, or colloquia in the educational field. Proposals must be submitted by the organizers, who will act as guest editors. The journal will support the editorial process and supervise compliance with the peer review process and the standards that it requires. The journal reserves the right of publication if the special issue does not meet the scientific standards established for the journal.

D) Book reviews:

This section is intended to disseminate new publications in the educational field whose contribution to the particular area of study is critically examined by authors who are involved and active in the area. Contributions will be received that review one or more books published anywhere in the world, the focus of which is on an educational area. Book summaries or dissemination of publishing products will not be accepted, but only critical analysis of the contribution of a new publication to the development of knowledge in a particular area

Ethical Aspects

It is the obligation of Revista Pensamiento Educativo to report the following practices of scientific fraud: a) fabrication, falsification, or omission of data and plagiarism; b) duplicate publication; c) conflicts of interest. The procedure of the journal is to check whether every paper submitted is not plagiarized. In order to do this, we work with specialized software that detects whether a manuscript, or part of it, has been published previously.

When plagiarism is identified, the author/s are immediately notified that the paper is plagiarized. The editor of the journal or person responsible for the text where the original appears is also contacted, as well as the authors of the original paper, indicating the plagiarism and who the plagiarist is.

If plagiarism is identified after publication, the journal will print the word "Retracted" on all pages of the paper. The authors are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permissions to partially reproduce material (text, tables, or figures) from other publications and for citing their source correctly. These permissions must be requested from both the author and the publisher that has published said material. The use of instruments created by others must have the explicit consent of the author of the instrument. In the event that the instruments are protected by copyright or registered trademark, the author must state in the paper how access to those instruments was obtained (consent granted by the author, payment of royalties, or other methods that result in their use). It is strictly forbidden to use copyrighted instruments or procedures without the consent of the author or through fraudulent reproduction.

The journal expects the authors to declare any association, whether professional, commercial, or financial, that may entail a conflict of interest in connection with the paper. in their paper the authors must report the ethical standards followed with the participants in the study. Failure to do so may justify the non-publication of the paper or its retraction after publication. Special care must be taken with the confidentiality of the information provided by the participants and the protection of their identity or that of their family members. The journal does not accept material published previously.

The journal is part of The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and is a member of Cross Check/Similarity Check.
Conflicts of interest.

The authors of a manuscript, the editors of the journal that receive it, and its reviewers (internal and external), must disclose any conflict of interest that could influence the manuscript or its review and approval. In the event that the authors declare a conflict of interest, this should be informed to the reviewers of the manuscript. In turn, those invited to review a manuscript should recuse themselves from doing so if they have a conflict of interest with the authors or the topic. Finally, if the manuscript is accepted, the declaration of its authors must appear in the publication so that readers are warned that there is a conflict of interest and may therefore form their own opinion about the significance of that conflict.

APA 6th Edition standards

In PEL the papers must adhere to the Guidelines of APA 6th Edition. If in doubt, review the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association, (APA) Sixth Edition or Third Edition translated from the Sixth Edition in English.
