The Euphorbiaceae are represented, in Chile, by 45 taxa of which 35 are endemic or native, distributed in 7 genera, Adenopeltis, Argythamnia, Avellanita, Colliguaja, Croton, Dysopsis and Euphorbia. Euphorbia is the most abundant genus. Recent chemical studies of the genus Euphorbia yielded terpenes (some of them with new structures), and flavonoids. From Croton chilensis, a monotypic species, morphine and aporphine alkaloids were obtained. The remaining species, of this family, growing in Chile yielded known triterpenes and flavonoids. In eight species the distribution of n-alkanes, in refined fractions, was studied. The studies of Chilean Euphorbiaceae carried out in our group have yielded new diterpenes belonging to the kaurene, lathyrene and abietane skeletons . In addition, a comparative chemical study of the Euphorbiaceae growing in Chile was done
