In acetonitrile, the cis-[MoO₂]²⁺ group present in the anionic complex [MoO₂(o-SC₆H₄COO)₂]^2-, can be functionalized under mild conditions by reaction with arylhydrazines, p-R-C₆H₄NHNH₂. The resulting ionic complexes have been formulated as [Et₃NH]₂[Mo(NNC₆H₄-p-R)₂(o-SC₆H₄COO)₂], R=H, [Et₃NH]₂[I]; Me, [Et₃NH]₂[II]; MeO, [Et₃NH]₂[III]; Cl, [Et₃NH]₂[IV]; NO₂, [Et₃NH]₂[V], characterized by spectroscopic methods and, additionally, in the case of complex [Et₃NH]₂[IV], by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The aryldiazenido ligands, occupying mutually cis positions, adopt the "singly bent" geometry
