Resumen

BAAR Z., Alejandro; HARRIS D., Paul; TALESNIK G., Eduardo  y  DUARTE G. DE C., Ignacio. Early immune hepatitis in the course of the Sjögren syndrome in children. Rev. chil. pediatr. [online]. 1999, vol.70, n.6, pp.491-497. ISSN 0370-4106.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0370-41061999000600006.

Immune hepatitis is a liver necroinflammatory disease, of unknown etiology, associated with the presence of circulating autoantibodies that may occur alone or in association with other autoimmune diseases, such as Sjögren syndrome which affects the salivary glands and occasionally the rest of the gastrointestinal system, specially the liver. We report the case of a 12 year old girl, affected by Sjögren syndrome, who presented abnormalities in the liver function tests during the course of the disease. The etiologic study revealed neither serologic markers for hepatitis viruses (A,B,C) nor metabolic disorders. IgM and IgG against Epstein-Barr virus, and circulating autoantibodies, such as antinuclear, anti-Ro, anti-La and anti-smooth muscle were found. The liver biopsy showed a histological picture consistent with chronic active hepatitis. Prednisone therapy was started, with marked improvement in the liver function tests, with no significant changes in the liver histology
