CORDERO VALDIVIA, Dilberth  y  BARRERA, Susana. Knowledge, attitudes and habits of the health personnel and mothers handling cases of URI. Rev. chil. pediatr. [online]. 2001, vol.72, n.4, pp.384-395. ISSN 0370-4106.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0370-41062001000400015.

This is a descriptive study which uses a combined methodology (quantitative and qualitative ) to evaluate knowledge, attitudes and habits of health personnel handling children under five years of age and of their parents. In relation to the treatment of URI. The study was done on samples from urban and rural health centers in La Paz, Cochabamba y Sancta Cruz during 1995. We used questionnaires following PAHO guidelines. Patients were followedup 5 to 7 days after their health service visit. Results were mainly analyzed, according to the type of education health personnel received (theory, theory and practice or neither). Most properly educated personnel showed an evidently better performance in relation to the rest. Communication of health personnel with the children was their main weakness. We inform several responses of the health personnel at critical moments where important decisions had to be made. This article backs the need of qualitative training (theory and practice) in Clinical Training Centers.

Palabras clave : acute respiratory infection; clinical training centers; study CAP URI.
