Dysfunctional elimination syndrome (SME) is an abnormal pattern of unknown etiology, characterized by bowel and bladder incontinence in different degrees and clinical presentations. Many studies show the origin of this pathology in an inadecuate pelvic floor musculature contraction. Objective: Describe the approach of this new concept on international literature, emphasizing the importance of the pediatrician role in the degree of clinical suspicion, diagnosis and initial management. The results of international studies guarantee the necessity of a united treatment of urinary and gastrointestinal affections, in order to obtain greater improvement. This approach of incontinence and constipation together, plus the range that each one of them entails, is introduced by this new syndrome

Palabras clave : Dysfunctional elimination syndrome; dysfunctional voiding; bladder incontinence; urodinamics; biofeedback; pediatric.
