DOMINGUEZ Y, MARIANA et al. ISOLATION OF Acinetobacter spp. FROM CLINICAL SPECIMENS AT THE HOSPITAL CLINICO REGIONAL "GUILLERMO GRANT BENAVENTE", CONCEPCION. Rev. chil. infectol. [online]. 2000, vol.17, n.4, pp.321-325. ISSN 0716-1018.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0716-10182000000400007.

Since Acinetobacter has become an important nosocomial pathogen, the aim of this study was to investigate the different species of this genus involved in infections in the main hospital of the city of Concepción between August 1998 and December 1999. One hundred-thirteen Acinetobacter strains were isolated mainly from respiratory tract and wound secretions. The majority of isolates came from intensive care unit patients, followed by patients hospitalized in trauma and surgery services. Strains were identified at species level and Acinetobacter baumannii isolates were biotyped using phenotypic tests. A. baumannii was the most frequent species found, and biotypes 9, 6 and 8 predominated in this nosocomial center.

Palavras-chave : Acinetobacter; Phenotypic typing; Hospital infections.
