Abstract

DEL C. CASTRO, Dolores  and  CICCHINO, Armando C.. A NEW SPECIES OF PHTHEIROPOIOS (PHTHIRAPTERA , AMBLYCERA)  PARASITIC ON CTENOMYS SP. (RODENTIA, OCTODONTIDAE) FROM  CORDOBA PROVINCE, ARGENTINA. Gayana (Concepc.) [online]. 2002, vol.66, n.2, pp.89-96. ISSN 0717-652X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-65382002000200001.

A new species of Phtheiropoios parasitic Ctenomys species from Córdoba Province, Argentina is described. The new species differs from the remaining two included in the "forficulatus-group" by measurements, lesser number of abdominal setae on segments I-IV, size and proportions of the male external genitalia, as well as size, shape and proportions of the thumb and tarsomere II of the male forficula. In addition to the external chorionic architecture of the eggs and morphological description, the distribution of the "forficulatus-group" on their host species is analyzed, concluding that they are geographically allopatric, and underwent their own evolutionary history within three different Ctenomys lineages

Keywords : Phtheiropoios; new species; "forficulatus-group"; descriptions; Ctenomys; Córdoba; Argentina; Eggs.
