Abstract

MELENDEZ C., Roberto. MORPHOMETRY AND MERISTICS OF APLODACTYLUS PUNCTATUS VALENCIENNES 1832 (PISCES: APLODACTYLIDAE) CAPTURED BETWEEN IQUIQUE (20° 13' S) AND CONCEPCION (36° 47' S), CHILE. Gayana (Concepc.) [online]. 2002, vol.66, n.2, pp.107-212. ISSN 0717-652X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-65382002000200016.

In Chile, the genus Aplodactylus included five nonimal species. Recent studies have shown the presence of Aplodactylus punctatus (jerguilla) only. However, there are at least three cromatic variation of this species, green (most abundant), yellowish and whitish (less abundant). A morphometric and meristics study on specimens of A. punctatus, including the color variation from central and northern Chile shoreline was conducted using univariates statistics (t-student) and Principal Component Analysis. No significant differences were found between morpho-metrics, meristic and coloration within the studied area. It is corroborated the presence of Aplodactylus punctatus as the only species of the genus in Chile

Keywords : Aplodactylus punctatus; south eastern pacific; color variation; Chile.
