Abstract
PALMA, Mario et al. CONTAMINATION EFFECTS ON GENETIC DIVERSITY OF MAZZAELLA LAMINARIOIDES (BORY) FREDERICQ (GIGARTINALES, RHODOPHYTA) ON BAYS. Gayana Bot. [online]. 2007, vol.64, n.1, pp.24-32. ISSN 0016-5301. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-66432007000100003.
In the present study, inter-population genetic variability of the intertidal Rhodophyta Mazzaella laminarioides (Bory) Fredericq from Concepción Bay, San Vicente Bay and Coliumo Bay, which show different levels of pollution, was evaluated. The variability was based on the polymorphism exhibited by the superoxide dismutase enzyme in 50 random sampled gametophyte fronds of M. laminarioides from each bay. The sampling was carried out at Talcahuano, in Concepción Bay; Lenga Cove, in San Vicente Bay; and Dichato, in Coliumo Bay. The three populations of M. laminarioides showed two alleles (A and B). The allele B in the population of Concepcion Bay showed the highest frequency corresponding to 0.24, followed by the population of San Vicente Bay with 0.10 and the lowest 0.04 B allelic frequency was found in the population of Coliumo Bay. The study revealed that the two most polluted sites showed high frequency of allele B.
