Variables and hydro-meteorological events showing the in situ influence of the El Niño phenomenon aver the western region of Cuba are analyzed. It is statistically shown, using the overlaping epochs analysis method, that the total catch of lobsters (Panulirus argus) in the gulf of Batabanó are high in El Niño years and low in the years + 1 and -1. After ten thousand iterations by the Monte Carlo method, the degree of association for the total catch gave a probability of P=0.001 P=0.0038 for the terrnination of the closed season, and P=0.0226 for the period of massive migration
