Resumen
ARIAS, Teresa; HERRERA, Liliana y SANTANDER, Edgardo. Characterization of physical, chemical and biological parameters in Bajo Molle bay, Iquique. Investig. mar. [online]. 2001, vol.29, n.2, pp.51-60. ISSN 0717-7178. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-71782001000200006.
Physical, chemical and biological variables were analyzed during an annual cycle in three stations and at three levels of depth in the Bajo Molle bay, Iquique, characterized by scarce antropogenic influences. The analyzed parameters showed normal values. Some fluctuated in response to typical signal of annual variability, like temperature and light extinction coefficient. The pH, total phosphorus, total solids and detergents showed small fluctuations. On the other hand, total nitrogen, total suspended solids, sinking solid and oils and fats showed strong oscillations. When comparing the Bajo Molle and Iquique bays, variables as oils and fat, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and fecal coliforms showed the greatest differences. Baseline results obtained from Bajo Molle bay serve as a comparison base to detect problems in critical points of the coast of Iquique
