VELASQUEZ M., Héctor. MÉTODO PARA ESTUDIAR HUESOS DE ANIMALES EN SITIOS ARQUEOLÓGICOS: VENTAJAS Y PROBLEMAS. Chungará (Arica) [online]. 2004, vol.36, suppl., pp.349-359. ISSN 0717-7356.

Compared to the important theoretical development on zooarchaeological quantification and the subsequent available literature, little effort has been devoted to the explicit presentation of basic recording procedures. In these pages, we present a method that -despite being originally developed for a particular context- has been very useful, with minor modifications, for the analysis of several archaeological contexts, reflecting both open-air agroceramic occupations in Central Chile and sheltered hunter-gatherer occupations in Patagonia. This method is based upon the individual analysis of bone specimens and their recording in computer data bases, using standardized categories for recording its taxonomic and anatomical affiliation, as well as traits attributed both to antropic and "natural" agencies
