Abstract

MENDEZ M, César A  and  JACKSON S, Donald G. PREHISPANIC OCCUPATION OF COMBARBALA (SEMIARID NORTH, CHILE): A SYNTHETIC PROPOSAL. Chungará (Arica) [online]. 2008, vol.40, n.2, pp.107-119. ISSN 0717-7356.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-73562008000200001.

We synthesize archaeological research at Combarbalá (Limarí Province), an inland locality in the Semiarid North of Chile. We describe the spatial and stratigraphic work conducted within the región, the methods used and the results obtained. The main characteristics and resource structure ofthe study área are outlined in order to illustrate some factors that may have conditioned human settlement. Archaeological research carried out up to now has exposed contexts which allow a schematic proposal which extends at least throughout the Holocene.

Keywords : Semiarid North Interior; prehispanic occupation synthesis; change and continuity.
