VASQUEZ V, Fabián  e  SALAZAR R, Gabriela. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PATTERN A GROUP OF OBESE PRESCHOOL CHILDREN, ATTENDING DAYCARE CENTERS (JUNJI), EVALUATED BY A MOVEMENT SENSOR. Rev. chil. nutr. [online]. 2005, vol.32, n.2, pp.110-117. ISSN 0717-7518.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-75182005000200005.

Objective:  To evaluate the level of physical activity in a group of obese preschool children between 3 and 5 years-old attending daycare centers (JUNJI). Methods:  The sample was constituted by 24 obese children of 3-5 year old, with a homogeneous distribution. A movement sensor (Tritrac-R3D) was used during two days of week (W) in the daycare center and home at one weekend (WEND) day, to assess the following activity categories: minimum, sedentary, light and moderate-intense. Results:  In the W, children spent the greatest percentage of time, in minimal activity 58% (488 minutes) and only 4% (32 minutes) in moderate-intense activity. At a WEND day, minimal activity was 52% (405 minutes) and moderate-intense activity was 3% (22 minutes).  Conclusions:  This group of obese preschool children has a sedentary pattern of physical activity, both at home and day care center. Initiatives are under way to ameliorate the type of activities which promote more active lifestyles in the children (ICENAF Project)
