AGUIRRE P, Carolina; GALGANI F, José  e  DIAZ B, Erik. DETERMINATION OF GLYCEMIC INDEX OF NUTRIDIABETIC®, A FOOD TARGETED TO TYPE-2 DIABETIC SUBJECTS. Rev. chil. nutr. [online]. 2006, vol.33, n.1, pp.14-21. ISSN 0717-7518.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-75182006000100002.

Type-2 diabetes is a fuel metabolism disorder with the diet being critical to maintain normal glycemic levels. The amount and type of carbohydrate are the main determinant factors of glycemia. The glycemic index is a known parameter to estimate the acute blood glucose impact of carbohydrate foods. Thus, high glycemic index foods promote increased glycemia, and the opposite occurs for low glycemic index foods. This study evaluated the glycemic index of a specially-designed diabetic food (NutriDiabetic®) in 10 non-diabetic and 9 diabetic subjects from both sexes. In both groups, the ingestion of 50g of available carbohydrates from NutriDiabetic® induced a lower postprandial glycemic response in comparison to the administration of 50g of glucose. As consequence, the glycemic index from this new food was 27% for non-diabetic and 54% for diabetic subjects. The estimated blood glucose reponse to white bread would be 85% higher to equal amounts of available carbohydrates from NutriDiabetic®. For the dietetic management of type-2 diabetic patients, it is necessary to consider the glycemic load as a more adequate index to estimate blood glucose response
