ARRAZTOA V, José Antonio et al. EFECTIVIDAD CLÍNICA DEL MÉTODO MUCOTÉRMICO PARA REGULAR LA FERTILIDAD: RESULTADOS DE UN PROGRAMA APLICADO EN LA COMUNA DE SAN BERNARDO. Rev. chil. obstet. ginecol. [online]. 2006, vol.71, n.3, pp.189-195. ISSN 0048-766X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-75262006000300008.

Background: Modern methods of natural family planning (NFP) are a standardized educational system allowing the user couples to be aware of their fertile and infertile days throughout the menstrual cycle. Its applicability as a contraceptive method has been well documented in the literature. In addition, charting fertile and infertile days during the menstrual cycle allows the clinicians to asses the woman's reproductive endocrinology health. Objectives: The main purpose of this research was to determine the clinical efficacy of this method in an open prospective cohort study design in San Bernardo. Methods: Prospective cohort study. The intervention consisted in the instruction of couples in the use of a mucothermic method. Results: Herein we show our results from all the patients since January 1st 1996 through December 31st 2003. Six hundred patients requested information, 389 (64.8%) began instruction and 263 (67.5%) completed the educational process. Life time table analysis reported 94.3% (IC: 86.8-97.6) clinical effectiveness. Conclusion: This natural family planning method is highly effective for user couples spacing or limiting their families
