Resumen

ZEGERS, Beatriz et al. Validity and reliability of the Olson, Russel and Sprenkle Family Cohesión and Adaptability Scale in diagnosing family functioning in the Chilean population. Rev. chil. neuro-psiquiatr. [online]. 2003, vol.41, n.1, pp.39-54. ISSN 0717-9227.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-92272003000100006.

Introduction. The results of a study analyzing the reliability and validity of the Olson, Russell & Sprenkle Family Cohesion and Adaptability Scale for diagnosing family functioning in the Chilean population are presented. Method. The version used in the Polaino-Lorente and Martinez Cano validation study carried out in Spain was applied in this analysis. The sampling consisted of 151 families selected randomly from the Greater Santiago area. The questionnaires were answered only by the parents (n=255) since it was also the intention of the analysis to compare the results with those of the Spanish study, in which the questionnaires were answered only by the parents. Results. The Cronbach alpha coefficient for reliability was 0.6526, which is considered acceptable, and the construct validity results indicate that the scale is an instrument that can be used in our country. Conclusions. The confirming factorial analysis carried out indicates that our country’s factorial structure consists of seven factors rather than six, as determined in the study of the population in Spain
