The article presents the main findings of Barría on the presence of personality disorders in a sample of Chilean men abusive with their intimate partner. 77.7% of offenders have some type of personality disorder, and 37% have 1 to 5 disorders. Another important finding is that the batterers have common features such as difficulty of expression of anger and its internal and external control; Fearful / disorganized and preoccupied styles of attachment, and misogynist and male chauvinist beliefs about women and violence. From the findings, a typological synthesis establishing eight (8) types of batterers is performed.
