The environmental participation constitutes a fundamental part of the principles of environmental governance. This participation is essential for the environmental democracy. In the last decades, the environmental participation has been strongly developed as a human right. Traditionally it has been cope with it as an instrumental right in order to fulfill the right to enjoy a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment, but it also entails a constitutional value. This right has been recently embodied in Latin America and the Caribbean in the Escazú Convention. Its standards could involve legal adjustments at the national level.
