The main objective of this work has been the development of a software, the SPDA 2002, to simulate the electrogeometric model. This software also performs the risk analysis on a building or a set of buildings, according to standards such as BS 6651 and IEC 61662. The software AutoCAD® is used, as a computer design tool, to model buildings in 3D. The SPDA 2002 evaluates the efficiency needed for the lighting protection system and consequently allows the designer to simulate the electrogeometric model with the most suitable level of protection. As result of this simulation, a 3D drawing is automatically generated showing all vulnerable points on the building, besides other relevant information to achieve the protection against indirect effects of lightning. An important reduction of time has been observed during the development of a protection system again lightning, when SPDA 2002 is used.
