The use of Al2O3TiO2 mixed oxides are proposed as catalytic supports for hydrotreating processes to remove sulfur and nitrogen heteroatoms from petroleum heavy cuts. Pure Al2O3 and TiO2 oxides as well as their mixtures containing 20, 35, 50, 65 and 80 mol percent on TiO2 were prepared by the solgel method. They were calcined at 500, 550 and 600ºC under an air flow of 1.2 L/h. The supports were characterized by Xray diffraction, physical adsorption of nitrogen, and nbutylamine potentiometric titration. They were then impregnated with a solution of cobalt nitrate and ammonium heptamolybdate, to obtain a concentration of 2.8 Mo atom/nm². The catalytic activity of the solids was measured for the vacuum heavy gasoil HDS at 350 ºC and 80 kg/cm². The sulfur removal obtained with this catalyst was higher than that of a reference industrial catalyst
