This study presents the probability distribution function for extreme value type I for three populations (T3PG) and its application for flood frequency analysis. Also, a procedure for estimation of its parameters based on the method of maximum likelihood, is proposed. This procedure uses a non-linear optimization algorithm to maximize the log-likelihood function for the computation of the parameters of the proposed distribution function. The model worked well in most of the study cases analyzed so far, two of which are contained in the paper to illustrate the procedure. It is concluded that the methodology proposed produces good results, and may be applied to hydrological practice
