GOMES, J.O.  y  VALLEJOS, R.V.. Analysis of Helicoidal Ball Nose end Mills for the Finishing of Free Form Surfaces on SAE H13 (48 HRC) Steel. Inf. tecnol. [online]. 2004, vol.15, n.4, pp.31-38. ISSN 0718-0764.

This work analyzes the tool/work-piece contact characteristics in the machining process, and the influence of cutting parameters on three axes for the fine finishing of SAE H13 (48 HRC) steel. The comparative criteria included the finish of the machined surface and the deviation in form of the piece. Evaluation of deviation in the form of the piece was made using test forms composed of one metallic part and one resin part (Cibatool), set at different inclinations. When the tool comes off the resin and enters the metal, two different levels in the surface are observed. It is concluded that the use of helicoidal-fluted tools is most useful for operations with inclined surfaces as typically encountered in cavities of plastic injection molds. For horizontal, flat surfaces, the choice of tools with straight flutes is a good alternative as they are more easily manufactured and sharpened
