A study was made of the mechanical behavior of low carbon steel and brass samples submitted to sequential tensile and cyclic torsion straining. The following experiments were conducted: pure tension, pure cyclic torsion, tension-cyclic torsion, cyclic torsion-tension and tension-cyclic torsion-tension. The effects of strain path changes on the work-hardening of these metals were verified on the effective stress-effective strain curves, through the analysis of the flow stress and the strain hardening rate. The results showed the influence of the deformation sequence, of the material characteristics and of the straining nature of the materials, on the hardening behavior of metals during forming.
