The objective of the present study is to show the use of wavelets as a learning tool in structural dynamic systems and their contribution to teaching in mechanical engineering. A procedure was established using wavelets for the restitution of input forces to the systems' structural dynamics as a function of data representing outputs of the system, when the impulse response functions are known. The case studied was related to the determination of the propulsive effect of a plasma motor applicable to micro- and nano-satellites. The results obtained in the input force restitution showed the advantages of the use of wavelets; and the limitations usually present in other methods described in the literature were not detected.
