A frequency domain design method for fractional delay FIR filters (Fractional Delay Filter, FDF) with wide bandwidth and fine delay resolution is described. The frequency domain method is based on a least square Taylor series approximation of the input signal. The proposed design method consists of reducing the complexity of the frequency optimization workload in the design of the FDF. This is obtained by the combination of a multirate structure and a modified Farrow structure. The resulting filter has a reduced number of arithmetic operations per output sample and yields a significant reduction in the design computational workload.
