This paper analyzes wastewater management in agriculture and cattle ranching, through a field survey of 4384 farmers in Galicia, Spain. The Water Framework Directive of the European Union evaluates water supply and sanitation in agricultural and cattle ranching. This study determined the attitude and competence of farmers with regard to wastewater management. Variable results were obtained depending on the income level of each enterprise. It is shown that the most competitive farms showed more willingness to conform to the new legal framework.
