In this paper a new mathematical model is proposed for evaluation of the behaviour of an urban bus chassis when subjected to torsion stress. The evaluation of the torsion response is important since it affects the roll movement and the load transfer between the axles on opposite sides of the vehicle. The torsion theory of thin closed cross sections and the torsion stiffness of a ladder structure have been used to determine the rotation of the bus superstructure when a torsion moment is applied. The results obtained have been compared with those calculated using the finite element method, revealing that the proposed model is a valid alternate method for evaluation of torsion stress on an urban bus.
