This study presents the simulation of the structural behavior of commercial vehicle frames using finite elements. The problem of modeling ladder type frames using beam-type finite elements is analyzed. Through this, the problems presented in modeling the rest of the frame in which  a shell or solid element  contributes greater reliability to the model were analyzed. Also, the problem generated by the union of one or another element in order to maintain continuity was discussed.  The differences of stiffness in the joints between longitudinal members and cross members were considered in the analysis. The study shows that it is possible to obtain better modeling  useful in various types of elements, minimizing at the same time the computational requirements.
