The viability of using laurel wax (Morella pubescens H& B ex Willd-Wilbur) as an edible coating base which is able to extend the useful life of tree tomatoes (Cyphomandra betacea S.) was studied. To achieve this, new formulations were analyzed considering the mass loss of different samples through a factorial design 32, randomized in blocks. These samples were analyzed with the help of the statistical software Statgraphics Centurion XV. This analysis allowed the optimization of the formulation, thus obtaining a coating compound that was evaluated in relation to the physicochemical and sensorial properties of the fruits. The analysis showed that the covering reduced the mass loss and the breathing indicator, and maintained the sensorial quality and firmness of the fruits for longer time. The storing time of the tree tomatoes increased by 25 % in relation to the samples, without coating.
