Abstract

In this work, models to correlate the growth of Pseudomonas fluorescens (a gram negative rod shaped bacterium) in the production of medium chain length polyhydroxy-alkanoates (PHAMCL) are analyzed. Sugarcane molasses and glucose were evaluated as carbon source by the cellular growth and production of polyhydroxyalcanoates. It was found that the molasses at concentrations lower than 60 g/L and 10 g/L of reducing sugars promotes the polihydroxialcanoate production of medium length chain. Prediction of Pseudomonas fluorescens growth was done using the primary kinetic models of Gompertz, Logistic and Baranyi. Growing kinetic parameters, such as latency (λ), maximum specific growth rate (μmax), and maximum cell concentration (ymax), were determined. Gompertz and Baranyi models showed the best fit to the experimental results, exhibiting some discrepancies in latency values. However, the three models show a correlation value R2 higher than 0.98.
