The goal of this study was to model the microclimate in a watermelon crop (Citrullus lanatus) in the department of Sucre. For this, a simulation study was done as an alternative to automatic control for irrigation systems. Methodologically, the Penman-Monteith and the water balance models were used to analyze the water requirement of the crop. As a control strategy, PID and diffuse type controllers were used to compare their behavior and to establish the best option in terms of the difficulties for obtaining the necessary water resource for the crop under the climatic conditions of the savannah of the department of Sucre. It is concluded that, in the modeling applied, the PID controller gave better performance (approximately 3.3 times) compared to the fuzzy controller in terms of a 24-hour work cycle. In addition, the PID controller also achieved better results in terms of power consumption, liquid quantity and system stability, compared to the fuzzy controller.
