A simple schedule algorithm for programming residential energy consumption of an electric vehicle battery charger is proposed, minimizing the total cost of electric power demanded per charge cycle in a real-time-pricing scenario. The total charge cycle duration is divided into time slots of one-hour-duration. All possible combinations throughout the available time interval to carry out the charge cycle are considered, and the combination that minimizes the total cost per charge cycle is found. To determine the available time to carry out the charge cycle, for the simulation scenario, the driver's behavior is modeled with random variables. Through a statistical analysis of the simulations carried out, the potential saving obtained by incorporating the proposed algorithm is evaluated. Despite the limited operational flexibility, it is shown that the proposed algorithm satisfactorily finds a combination of hours along the available time, which reduces the total cost of the charge cycle.
