GONGORA, Maria Eugenia. Una pluma en la mano de Dios: una imagen en tres cartas de Hildegard de Bingen (1098-1179). Rev. signos [online]. 2002, vol.35, n.51-52, pp.79-91. ISSN 0718-0934.

This paper explores the possible meanings and contexts of an image which repeats itself in the epistles and in one of the visionary works of Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179). Starting with the letters written to various correspondents from 1148 until 1175 and in one of the visions in Scivias (completed by 1151), Hildegard's self-representation as a feather in the wind or as a feather in the hands of a King is consistent with her prophetic vocation and her belief in God's inspiration for most of her writings. In the early letters, the image of the feather is inscribed in a tale, and the purpose of this paper is to find out the possible origins of both the tale and the self-representation of the writer as a feather in the hands of the (heavenly) King.
