The article explains a project dedicated to the study of nail laminated timber elements that consist in nailing together individual boards over their whole lengths. The system has taken an important position in Europe but has not yet been introduced to the Chilean market. Preliminary tests with nailed joints proved the predictions of the norms regarding the bearing capacity and the slip modulus to be right. The initial slip modulus and bearing capacity of different nailing schemes was determined and analyzed with shear tests. The results show satisfactory coincidence with the values calculated theoretically. Samples of nail laminated elements were produced and the influence of butt joints in bending strengths, the stiffness under horizontal loading and the effectiveness of enforcements of panels were analyzed. The panels fabricated met the requirements of the Chilean standard and can be considered suitable for the construction of houses. The timber used was radiate pine because of the great volume available in Chile. Consequently, the present investigation is a first intend to introduce the concept of nail laminating and the experimental results are a base for further investigations
