The article reviews the investigations and the literature especially in relation to civic participation of the youngsters. Diverse definitions of this concept and its historical evolution in Chile are reviewed. It deepens into the consequences of the civic participation in the democratic societies, through the benefits that it reports for the individuals and their communities. The fact that this participation could be different for young men and young women is also emphasized.
