Abstract

LYNCH, VIRGINIA  and  HERMO, DARÍO. Is it possible to detect hafting traces?: Macro and microscopic evidence in experimental lithic tools. Magallania [online]. 2011, vol.39, n.1, pp.241-252. ISSN 0718-2244.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-22442011000100015.

There are numerous ethnographic and functional works that associate scrapers to the hide working, but few have focused on describing the usefulness of these instruments from its manipulation through the use of haft. In this paper we describe the results achieved during testing hafted scrapers, to determine the characteristics of a particular type of haft footprints from the observation of macro and microscopic traces. The experimental results generate new information regarding the use of prehistoric stone tools and it will provide a comparative analysis with the sample taken from the piedra museo archaeological locality situated in the central plateau of Santa Cruz, Argentina.

Keywords : Experimental archeology; scrapers; haft; micropolish; residue.
