Resumen

MENDOZA, Javier Mauricio  y  LENGERKE, Omar. Competitive opportunities for the tourism industry in Colombia: An exploratory study. Rev. interam. ambient. tur. [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.2, pp.114-121. ISSN 0717-6651.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-235X2018000200114.

Business models are currently subject to entrepreneurial flexibilities, incremental reorganization processes and management platforms in synergy with the environment. The competitiveness of regions is framed by the management of companies in the long term with the criteria of responsibility, sustainability and value creation. A region’s tourism sector is a relevant link that strengthens the uniting of a country’s economic and business prosperity. This work presents the findings with respect to competitiveness for the tourism sector in Colombia. The general theory of competitiveness was used, expressed in Porter’s Diamond of Competitive Advantage through field work in companies linked in the constellation of tourism value with a regional and national strategic platform. In conclusion, the sector merits a redefinition of its strategic intentions with a view to better use of its competitive potential expressed in its experience curve and inter-business relations. In addition, it is fundamental for research groups and universities, in conjunction with companies, to implement scientific development of the tourism process that drives increased supply, transformation and commercialization of tourism products and services. This is meant to generate greater added value and achieve greater participation in the markets where domestic and foreign consumers are more demanding and more sophisticated.
