DIFABIO DE RAIMONDO, Elbia Haydée. Dioniso, dios del lagar, dador del vino (AP IX 524). Universum [online]. 2007, vol.22, n.1, pp.20-31. ISSN 0718-2376.

Two subsequent anonymous hymns play a part in the Palatine Anthology, in book IX, entirely dedicated to persuasive epigrams. Dionysus' hymn appears as number 524 and the corresponding poem to Apollo follows it. Only one sight is enough to point out their similitude in design, length, distribution criterion, style, metric and purpose. Twenty-six lines form each text: the first and the final lines are identical and serve as frame in each case, with initial appealing verses conjugated in first person plural. The rest details epithets in alphabetical order, four per stanza: thus, the terms that begin with alpha occupy the second row and then they go on until the twenty-four Greek letters are completed. Curiously, on various occasions, the same epithet names and brings out these gods, so opposite in genealogy, characteristics, interest, attributes, cult, symbolization and mediation in mythical stories. That is why the present work tends to examine Dionysus' portrait drawn in the text, to clarify this particular doubling through the comparison of the sources and to later consider if wine results, definitively, positive or negative for men, starting from the epithets with which Dionysus is sung

Palabras clave : Palatine Anthology; Anonymous hymns; Dionysus and Apollo; Epithets; Wine: ¿reward or punishment for humankind?.
