Resumen

GAYO, Modesto; TEITELBOIM, Berta  y  MENDEZ, María Luisa. Patrones culturales de uso del tiempo libre en Chile: Una aproximación desde la teoría Bourdieuana. Universum [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.2, pp.42-72. ISSN 0718-2376.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-23762009000200004.

During the last decade, studying the patterns of taste and cultural participation has been increasingly important in academic debates. Pierre Bourdieu’s work has been acknowledged as a key reference in the area. In this article we show results of an empirical research that support two of the most significant ideas of this intellectual: the homology thesis, and the idea of the relationship between culture and structure. In other words, against the idea of an increasingly individualised society, this study shows how cultural participatory patterns in Chile are strongly influenced by social class. Moreover, age is highlighted as a very important variable for understanding the same phenomenon. In addition, from a methodological approach, we make use of a statistical technique that the French author made famous, multiple correspondence analysis.
