The paper examines ways of living by building with raw earth (bricks and walls) in Chile during the colonial period. It considers the role of these materials in the founding of cities, roads and trade routes, and the microclimate of the houses. It is detected that the use of raw land was essential for adaptation of human groups to cultural and environmental conditions of the region.
