Extensions of the Quad-tree for the estimation of dense disparity map using the luminance on the real domain have been proposed in the literature. Main focus of this work is the comparison between the algorithms for the processing of stereoscopic images utilizing the luminance Y in the real domain by an extension of the Quad-tree, with the extended Quad-tree, here proposed, to process color images encoded in the field of Clifford algebras for the YUV model. The dense disparity map is obtained by solving the correspondence of pixels for each pixel of the stereoscopic pair. The correspondence problem is an essential task that presents problems due to the presence of occluded areas, noise and variations in lighting, among others. The Clifford algebra is used to map the color values YUV of each pixel on the basis vectors, thus making a single Clifford number. In this domain, better results for images with many objects in the scene are generated, as compared with those obtained on the images using the luminance on the real domain. By processing multiple stereoscopic pairs, for both algorithms, the improvement obtained in real scenes is experimentally demonstrated.
