Resumen

LUCHSINGER L, Alfredo  y  CAMILO F, Francisco. YIELD AND SOLUBLE SOLIDS CONTENT OF SWEET CORN. Idesia [online]. 2008, vol.26, n.3, pp.21-29. ISSN 0718-3429.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-34292008000300003.

Hybrids Jubilée, Bonanza, and GH-2757 planted on October 12th, November 5th, December 15th, 1995 and January 8th, 1996 in the Machali community (6th Region of Chile) were evaluated. According to the results and under the trial conditions it was determined that grain depth is an important yield component which plays a preponderant role, GH-2757 being superior to the other two hybrids. The soluble solids content was within the margins of the quality A raw product (24-30°Brix) in all hybrids at harvest time, which indicates that harvest was made at an optimum quality stage. With respect to weight of the marketable ear (without husks), the best result was presented by GH-2757, which at the same time was the most stable hybrid reaching a yied of 20.8 ton/ha of ears. The same was shown by this hybrid as to grain yield per ear and per area (10.8 tonlha). Hybrids presented good yields in two first dates, decreasing in the third date. GH-2757 recovered in the fourth, thus appearing as the most suited to late plantings. Jubilée might be used in early plantings, thus the industrial process would start earlier. The results depended mainly on marketable husked ears and grain yield per area.

Palabras clave : Sweet corn; planting date; yield; soluble solids content.
