Resumen

CARRILLO L, Bernardo; MOREIRA L, Víctor H  y  GONZALEZ V, Juan. Characterization and classification of dairy productive systems in the Central-South region of Chile: a multivariate analysis. Idesia [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.1, pp.71-81. ISSN 0718-3429.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-34292011000100010.

This study characterized and classified dairy farms from the Metropolitana-del Maule Region and the Bío-Bío Region of Chile, simultaneously using quantitative and qualitative information. Data correspond to productivity indicators, technological level, dairy cow management, and labour resources used. A total of 25 and 74 dairy farms were examined from the respective regions, using three techniques of multivariate statistical analysis: Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA), and Cluster Analysis (CA). Four groups or types of dairy productive systems were identified with different levels of production efficiency for each area or region. On the average the Metropolitana-del Maule Region has more intensive and productive systems, with a more advanced technological development than those present at the Bío-Bío Region.

Palabras clave : Dairy productive systems; multivariable statistical analysis; principal component analysis; multiple correspondence analysis; cluster analysis.
