CASTILLO C, Octavio et al. Laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for renal tumors. Rev Chil Cir [online]. 2006, vol.58, n.4, pp.287-292. ISSN 0718-4026. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-40262006000400010.
Background: Partial laparoscopic nephrectomy is a minimally invasive technique that has good oncological results and preserves functional renal parenchyma Aim: To report a series of patients with localized renal tumors, managed with laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. Patients and methods: Prospective registry of patients subjected to partial laparoscopic nephrectomy for solid tumors or complex renal cysts. Results: Between July 1999 and July 2003, 56 patients (mean age 57 years, 41 males) underwent laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. Fifty two had solid renal tumors on CAT scam and four had complex renal cysts. A polar segmental nephrectomy was performed in eight patients and a wedge resection in 48. Mean operative time was 96.7 minutes. Temporary renal arterial and vein occlusion was carried out in 18 patients, with an mean ischemia time of 28.2 minutes. Mean blood loss was 231 mL and complication rate was 8.9%. Mean hospital stay was 2.9 days. Histopathological study reported renal cell carcinoma in 40 patients (71%) and a benign renal tumor in 16 (29%). There were no positive surgical margins in the definitive pathological report. Mean postoperative follow-up time was 32.3 months without postoperative local tumor recurrences or distant metastasis. Conclusions: Partial laparoscopic nephrectomy adds the advantages of minimally invasive surgery in terms of hospital stay, complications and convalescence period and has the same results than open nephrectomy
