Resumen
SOTO-BARBA, JAIME et al. DIATOPIC VARIATION IN THE SPEECH OF CHILEAN PROFESSIONALS: SUBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT. RLA [online]. 2015, vol.53, n.1, pp.131-147. ISSN 0718-4883. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-48832015000100007.
The aim of this study was to explore whether speakers from different parts of the country can identify diatopic differences in the pronunciation of educated speakers in formal situations (interview and reading). The data was collected through a survey of subjective assessment. Results show that the geographical origin of the speakers is not recognized by most participants. These results suggest that there is no identifiable diatopic variation at the phonetic level in the speech of Chilean professionals with higher education level which is usually classified as educated speakers.
Palabras clave : Diatopic variation; linguistic attitude; phonetics; educated speech.
