Resumen

DURAN MIGLIARDI, Carlos. Multiculturalism: advertising and citizenship. Polis [online]. 2012, vol.11, n.31, pp.125-140. ISSN 0718-6568.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-65682012000100007.

Multiculturalism, along with being a category indicating a particular state of "diversity" characteristic of complex societies in which social order andsubjectivity manifests as split realities, is itself a way to assume the configuration of thepublic realm and citizenship differently from liberal-individualist classical principles. In this sense, the multiculturalist policy was established as a bid to overcome the "liberal fiction" of homogeneity that highlights the difference of cultural patterns as a keyelement in the configuration of a democratic public space open to diversity. This paperattempts to focus precisely on the scope and limitations of this relationship between thepublic realm and difference, sustained by multiculturalist policy.

Palabras clave : Multiculturalism; democracy; citizenship.
